Indianapolis Poodle Rescue, Inc. is
dedicated to rescuing poodles throughout Central
Indiana, although we occasionally provide services
to surrounding areas. Our mission is to rescue and re-home
adoptable poodles that have fallen upon hard times. Most of
these poodles ended up in our rescue because they were owner surrendered, located at a shelter, or found as a
stray. We act as a resource for owners and potential poodle
owners. We primarily serve Central Indiana. If you are interested in
adopting a poodle, becoming a volunteer, or applying to be a
foster home, please check our forms page for the appropriate
information
Varieties of Poodles
The breed
standard recognizes three sizes of poodles-Toy, Miniature, and
Standard. Sizes such as “teacup” or “royal standard” are not
recognized sizes.
Toy poodles
are 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulder and
generally weigh less than 10 pounds. They are ideal for older or
less active individuals or those with limited living space. They
are not recommended for families with young children.
Miniature
poodles are more than 10 inches and up to 15 inches at the
highest point at the shoulder. They generally weigh between 14
and 20 pounds. They are good with children and fit well into
most living situations.
Standard poodles are taller than 15 inches at
the highest point of the shoulder with no upper size limit. Most
standards are within the 22-27 inch range and weigh from 45-70
pounds. Standard poodles require plenty of room to exercise.
They are great dogs for families.
Adoption Procedure
All adoptive individuals and families are
screened through a phone interview, an adoption application,
reference checks, a personal visit with the potential adoptive
poodle and foster family, and a home visit whenever possible.
Some applicants do not meet our criteria for adoption and other
applicants may not be a suitable match for a particular poodle.
We disclose all known information about our adoptive poodles so
that our re-homing efforts are permanent. Most rescue poodles
have an adoption fee which helps us recover veterinary fees,
daily food and shelter costs, and supply and administrative
costs. To encourage the adoption of special needs and older
poodles our adoption fees are waived. At the time of adoption a
contract between Indianapolis Poodle Rescue, Inc. and the new
owner is signed. If a poodle does not work out for a family it
may be returned for a refund of adoption fees within 14 days. If
an owner can no longer keep an adopted rescue poodle, it must be
returned to Indianapolis Poodle Rescue, Inc.
